The first passage I read was a continuation of "My Freshman Year". The chapter mainly talked about international students and how they deal with college. Some Japanese students said that Americans were not friendly to them. One made plans to hang out and never followed through. Another student said their roommate was rude and would yell at her all the time. International students struggle befriending Americans. I agree that some Americans can be very rude. In my hometown people would not hold the doors for people, would yell at others, and just show no respect. A lot of international students come to my hometown and I was friendly to everyone. Other kids at my school would make fun of the kids that were different and I don't think that is right. Luckily, I haven't seen that yet in Bloomsburg. I feel for the most part everyone is very friendly. Befriending people when you're from a different country can be very challenging because countries have different ways of life. The passage also mentioned that the international students learned that a way to make friends was the have a common hobby with someone. I agree that this is one of the best ways to make new friends. If two people really like Cheerleading or Basketball they can have a lot of common because they both share the same interest.

The second passage was about a group of young boys who were in a special program due to their history of drug abuse. The boys meet this man named Mr. Guthier who is a plumber and he teaches the kids a lot. A lot of the things he taught the kids about plumbing I feel like the kids can use his tips about plumbing in their everyday lives. Mr. Guthier tells the boys that "you can get yourself in real trouble if you don't think it through". Mr. Guthier was talking about plumbing but the boys can use these words of knowledge and connect them to their lives. It's important to think your actions through before doing something. Think about the consequences there might be for example the boys in the story can think about the outcome before they use a drug again. They know that if they use drugs again it will only lead to more time in the program and can negatively affect their bodies in many ways. Overall I think Mr. Guthier teaches the kids many things that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
